birddog, thanks for that. I don't usually read Slate but I think its pretty good. There are so many e-zines now, slate, salon, feed, suck... you name it!

But anyway someone already posted another article where this matter was discussed... I guess it was a study that come to these conclusions and the group that did the study seemed unbiased (refreshing change on this matter). I took it at face value but I see here some external factors such as crack, which arrived on the scene at the same time as higher abortion rates, could also be responsible for the crime reduction. My feeling is that this crime reduction is not a reason to change anyone's position on the abortion debate - however - this is certainly no reason to oppose the pro-choice position (although it is a little politically incorrect).

I tend to argue my pro-choice position based on the affluent segments of society, only because that is what my exposure to the situation has always been. But those that talk about it here usually speak from the inner-city pov, which btw I find to be racist. (ex. "lower classes are using abortion as birth control" - is one claim).
