Creating objective forums for discussion is a fundamental value of SI. Your cry for what amounts to the elimination of differing viewpoints undermines that value. And whether you are aware or not of exactly what you are calling for, the elimination of differing viewpoints is at the heart of what you are promoting.

It is a fact that an entire category of substantive posts on this thread systematically and repeatedly are attacked merely for not being consistent with the view of a group of posters making outlandish predictions of pie in the sky results for the company. The outlandish predictions repeatedly fail to come to pass. In turn, the motives of the posters repeatedly making the failed, exaggerated predictions should be held suspect and they should be challenged. This is true regardles of whether you or anyone who support the rosiest scenarios would prefer not to see opposing substantive views or not.

The record of this thread shows that everytime an opposing susbtantive viewpoint is expressed, the author of the viewpoint, not the idea, is attacked personally. The attacks are not constructive. Likewise, the responses to the attacks are no source of pleasure for anyone, least of all the ones being attacked.

If you want to improve the thread, don't look for scapegoats, support a forum for opposing viewpoints and deride any efforts by one side or another to eliminate them. You will better serve your alleged purpose of wanting to learn.

Doug, I agree that making a complaint to SI is the only logical way to stop the disruption - and I have done so this morning. I knew the "freedom of speech" argument would be his banner. But when I re-read some of the nauseous posts that were displayed by Visnic in the past, I feel this is the right approach.
