Do we need GATA? They certainly do not hurt and they have been instrumental in making public some of the excesses in the gold carry trade which is facilitated by the cb's, the producers, and the hedge funds. Their limitations are evident by the sheer side of the opposition and the resources available to them. The inability of the producers to operate in this environment with a cogent policy to support higher gold prices does not help either. Todays action in gold is further illustrating the lack of any conviction for higher gold prices resulting in a market that is supported by high demand with a great deal of gold coming to market to support that demand. Unfortunately for the gold investor this environment is not good for any kind of meaningful price increases for the short to medium term. Ken

Good post Winzer, but what is a tree hugger ? Do we need GATA ? Yes Manipulation of the truth going on ? Yes Governments and powers that be are doing a Mushroom Job on average American & much of people in the world ? Yes Inflation in USA, but statistics are not bearing it out ? Excluding housing hot spots and French Truffles, seems very low to me. But even if its not zero, it is very low. My big bag of Smartfood popcorn has been $2.99 for years now. I must be missing something ? That the bad guys are winning ? I forget who, but yesterday two threader posted that article about the college student needing and getting new credit cards to stay in the game. I wonder if this is happening to the majority of the population in the USA, those that pay most of the taxes, that will need to bail out the banks, those banks having the credit debt not being payed back by the majority of the tax payers over their heads in debt. So, those taxpayers who did not abuse their debt_ability will be grouped with those who did, and thru their taxes the Fed will repay the banks those debts. But those in debt will have legal loopholes to reduce the amount of taxes they pay, where those of no debt pay the maximum. Ok, so the folks in debt get relief from their debt, thru the taxes of those not in debt. But then WHY does those things brought and consummed thru debts not payed back remain with those who obtained them on credit_forgiven, and those who actually payed taxes for the banks to receive, get nothing in return. So who wins ? People buying with credit and never money. Bank officials who gave out toooo easy credit, and the taxpayers, mostly those who did not have bad debt, their tax money to the bank, via way of taxes to government to Fed to banks(private). Oops, forgot to mention that some people do not pay their fair share in taxes, but we all knew that, those special Congressional little noticed laws added at the last minute that only the lawyers of those persons' who had the influence to lobby for them, reconize where and how to use them. Like I said, for me I want corruption and poor government to be crushed. Have the guilty punished, and those hurt helped. I hope and I work for. But Winzer you asked, "I must be missing something ?", my real answer is as follows. Until the bad is stopped and corrected, do what needs to be done using the rules of the day created by the bad, and protect yourself. Directly do not hurt others, but directly do not add wealth or power to the bad people, eventho indirectly innocents will be hurt. For example, for years now my federal and state taxes taken from me as required on an ongoing bases, but at the end of each year using that created by our Congress into tax laws I get back 98 cents on the dollar. I am in the lowest of the low tax brackets, but the government is able to use my money interest free until I "make" them give it back to me. You can too. Doug
