ERP is for manufacturing companies, which represent roughly 1/3 of the total number of organizations globally.

At the typical organization at least twice as many individuals are involved in customer interaction as the number involved in manufacturing.

Simple math: 3 times the number of target companies and at least twice the number of seats.

It was best described by one of our big 5 partner contacts: "Well without customers, you sure don't need an ERP system."

There are many reasons ERP came first, the street continues to underestimate the sophistication required in customer management solutions (read barriers to entry) and the size of the market.

Companies have spent multi billions on acquiring data, much of it about customers, but the application and use of this information de automates in most cases just before it would be most useful. The interface between customer and seller isn't much different than it was 20 years ago. The pressure to actually make use of data at all levels in a company ( but especially at the ultimate level of the customer) is increasing as the data increases. There is a compelling need to fill this space, but whether SEBL is a compelling investment is another question.... I do think the eventual opportunities are much bigger than ERP, and that at this time SEBL has the best position .

the ego has landed!

(sorry, i couldn't resist)

for those who may have missed it, tom was on the tube yesterday. fwiw, here's his cursory appearance on CNBC (audio & transcript):

mktnews.nasdaq.com\\www\nasdaq\news\msnbc\1999\8\23\NASDAQ_1310_24183.htm&usymbol=SEBL&logo=True&companyname=Siebel+Systems%2C+Inc%2E

on a more detailed level, there's a lengthy piece on web-based CRM in InternetWeek. better copy (than CNBC anyway), although i'll defer final edits to TD and bdzr:
