I have done a great deal of traveling here in the U.S. as well, as you must have gathered in my postings. On this coast I have often sought peace and quiet in the White Mountains, the Adirondacks (getting a bit too crowded though), the Blue Ridge (nearly moved there), the Smokies.

Hawaii was to use up some frequent flier miles. The Desolation Trail showed visitors what the remains of a major lava flow on what had been woodlands looked like. It was before Mt. St. Helens blew.

You call those mountain ranges? They're nothing but low hills! :-)

Now, here in the great Northwest on the same day and within two hours from eachother, you can swim in a lake, the beach, ski down a mountain, white water raft, jump in a natural hot spring, watch the whales, and hike in the deep forest with trees as big around as a buss.
