The US gets involved: "Starnet Raid the Result of 18-Month Investigation, Paper Says
8/24/99 9:22

Vancouver, Aug. 24 (Bloomberg) -- A police raid on the
offices of Starnet Communications International Inc. last week
was the result of an 18-month investigation involving Canadian
and U.S. law-enforcement agencies, the National Post reported,
citing results of a search warrant granted to Vancouver police.
Police were investigating eight potential violations of the
Canadian criminal code including issues of illegal gambling,
distribution of pornography and money laundering over the
Internet, according to the search warrant. A Vancouver police
detective said in the document that no one in British Columbia is
licensed to operate an online casino.
Yesterday, Vancouver-based Starnet said its shares will
continue trading and that it will continue operating after the
Friday raid.
