For the Engage dsp I owned 100 shares of CMGI in a Brown & Co. account. I received a "snail" mail letter from Brown & Co on behalf of CMGI (on CMGI letterhead) with instructions to contact WIT regarding the dsp. This letter also had what looked like a unique "Investor Code" number printed on the upper right corner of the letter. (The typeface of the code number and the quality of the imprint were different than the typeface of the body of the letter.)

At the WIT site, the form for indicating interest in ENGA had a field in which I needed to enter my Investor Code number. Both my Brown & Co and WIT accounts were registered in my name. At the time, my wife also had a WIT account but I only used the code number for indicating interest once (in my account). Who knows if I could have used the number for multiple co's in accounts not registered in my name?
