Marconi, I have been shorting third tier Inets for almost a year now. I just closed a short sell of IMAA for a healthy profit yesterday. I have not touched the big names. The difference to me is who is promoting the names. When Goldman, Mary Meeker, Henry Blodgett et al have their hooks in a name, I leave it alone. Sure, one day the ride will end, but who's to say how much higher they can go before that occurs? I really don't need to see billions taken off the market cap of a company to make a good profit. In the case of IMAA 60 million sliced from a cap of 140 million put a nice profit into my account. IMAA is the epitome of my idea of a good Internet short. A company that is next to death's door judging by the balance sheet announced it is developing an Internet company that will be the 'next Priceline', sells a small amount of preferred stock to a CMGI affiliate, and the daytraders run it up 200% in a few days. There were only a few obscure analysts following the stock, all rating it a 'hold'. I doubt I'll ever touch the big 'netz. There are just too many wannabes that will drop as much if not more if the liquidity does dry up, and will not come back as fast in the event of a mere 'dip' as we saw last month.
