This news of Merrill/Knight is awesome. Beyond what was mentioned in the article, Merrill currently sends its orders (at least, seemingly, my orders) to Herzog (another MM) for fulfillment. What if Merrill were to reroute to NITE? The would be a heck of a lot of additional volume.

I'm still reading and re-reading the article, but I really like the ramifications.

thank you for the mer/nite article. i believe this helps to explain why the first call estimate was high, going into a seasonally weak trading q. although market share of trading remained stagnant, nite may have expected the deal with mer to close sooner and realize the cost savings to help earnings. ooops, the deal and setup appears to have taken longer than nite may have planned.
