Terry, your comments about taxi divers in Mexico are hilarious--when's the last time you had to take a kamikaze cab in Tokyo?

However, if time is--as you claim in this posting--an invention of Man, then what about the other dimensions? Are they the inventions of "Man" or simply the experience of humankind?

From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) (web1913)
Faith \Faith\, n. [OE. feith, fayth, fay, OF. feid, feit, fei, F. foi, fr. L. fides; akin to fidere to trust, Gr. ??????? to persuade. The ending th is perhaps due to the influence of such words as truth, health, wealth. See {Bid}, {Bide}, and cf. {Confide}, {Defy}, {Fealty}.] 1. Belief; the assent of the mind to the truth of what is declared by another, resting solely and implicitly on his authority and veracity; reliance on testimony.

Now, there are various ways in which we judge trustworthiness. For example, in the case of Rand MacNally, I am in a position to corroborate their maps on occasion, which gives me greater confidence that they are reliable in instances where I have no independent means of verification. Further, they seem to "integrate" well into claims made by other organizations and people. For example, they show Seattle as being farther from me than Chicago, and United Airlines shows a stopover at O'Hare on the way. Again, there is the reputation of the company to consider, since persons whom I respect have used the maps in instances outside my experience with good result, and speak highly of it. There is no substantial backlash, say an "anti- MacNally" movement, although there are competitors. Finally, there is the "feel" of professionalism and care in their publications, the sense of no nonsense meticulousness and a concern for quality. In all of the ways, I come to have faith in Rand MacNally....
