FOCUS-Net2Phone sets exclusive Compaq deal, eyes more By Kristin Roberts NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Newly-public online telephone service provider Net2Phone Inc. <NTOP.O> said Tuesday it struck an exclusive deal with Compaq Computer Corp. <CPQ.N>, helping to send its shares to new highs for the second day running. Net2Phone Chief Executive Howard Balter said the Compaq deal is the company's third exclusive product-bundling agreement and that Net2Phone aims to strike more such deals. "We're going to pursue these and not just stop at Compaq. We want to be bundled in every PC around the world - not only the Netscape browser but the Microsoft browser," Balter told Reuters in a telephone interview. Shares of Net2Phone, which emerged Tuesday from a mandated quiet period, climbed $10.875 to $58 just after midday on volume of 5.7 million shares, making it one of Nasdaq's most active stocks and among the top gainers. On Monday, Net2Phone closed at $47.125, a sharp gain from the initial public offering price of $15 a share. Financial terms of the Compaq deal were not released. Net2Phone said its product will be included on all new Compaq Presarios sent to customers in Canada, Latin America, Japan and Asia-Pacific. A button located on the Presario keyboard will connect Internet users to a telephone services Web site, run jointly by Compaq and Net2Phone, featuring computer-to-telephone software and Net2Phone calling rates. Compaq, the world's largest personal computer maker, is now shipping Presario keyboards with this capability to customers. Net2Phone has also struck product-bundling deals with America Online Inc.'s <AOL.N> ICQ chat service and its Netscape Navigator Web browser. "These deals are getting us exposure on the Net and are creating validation for the product as well as an additional layer of ease in use," Balter said. Separately, Net2Phone on Tuesday named former Bloomberg New Media general manager Jonathan Fram as president. He will oversee the expansion of Net2Phone's business, broaden the firm's distribution agreements, and develop strategic relationships with Internet Service Provider and communications companies throughout the world. "He will bring a lot of expertise in terms of media, public relations and branding to help us create greater awareness for the Net2Phone product," Balter said.
