The difference between MCAF and NETA Larson was always "ahead" of the old McAfee, always able to steer the company out of trouble and onto the fast track with plenty of time (ie: revenues) to spare. Now, it seems to me that his thinking has fallen behind, and has been unable to keep ahead of the company for about a year. Granted the mergers were substantial and were entitled to take some time to absorb. But for most of 1999 he has looked to the outside world like he has been scrambling to catch up, and neither he nor his management team have been able to do so. Without thinking ahead of the game, neither he nor anyone else could hope to lead the company to success. Critical in his and the company's recovery is this: He appears heavily overloaded. To cure this he must hire 2 or 3 new competent trustworthy senior executives so that he can better delegate. A new senior sales management team is called for, one that can give him better visibility into deal closure rates, and can allow him to focus more on higher level issues such as what markets to take the company in to. I see past his arrogance to a frightened young, powerful man, who has successfully grown his company by leaps and bounds ... until this year. Now that he is finally behind the power curve, he has become bogged down and has not had the time to properly structure the company through the acquisitions. I believe that shareholders would be lucky to have Mr. Larson - the way he used to be - back at the helm, but I worry that that Mr. Larson is no longer with us. Bill --- if you are still in there, please give us a sign. -E disclosure: long term long.
