Durable Goods Orders for July = +3.3%

New orders for manufactured durable goods in July increased $6.5 billion or 3.3 percent to $204.0 billion, the Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census reported today. This follows a 0.5 percent June increase and is the eleventh increase in the last fourteen months.

Existing Home Sales for July = -3.9% to 5.41m units

Compared to the previous month, the seasonally adjusted annual rate* of existing home sales dropped by 3.9 percent in July to a level of 5.41 million units. Despite this decrease, the monthly sales pace was the third highest ever recorded, topped only by seasonally adjusted levels posted in March and June of this year. Compared to July of 1998, existing home sales increased by 4.6 percent last month.
