Canadian spot natgas extends lead
despite NYMEX

NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Canadian spot natural gas
prices were mostly higher again on Tuesday despite a mild retreat
seen on NYMEX, industry sources said.

NYMEX's September contract traded today at $2.975-3.07 per
million British thermal units, mostly down from Monday's
settlement at $3.064.

''PG&E called a low-inventory OFO (Operational Flow Order) on its system down south (for
Wednesday). I wouldn't be surprised if prices go up further,'' a Calgary-based trader said.

In Alberta, spot gas prices at the AECO storage hub were quoted at C$3.42-3.44 per gigajoule
(GJ), up another six cents from Monday's market. This compares with C$1.45-1.50 per GJ a year
ago.

AECO forwards: 8/24/99 Previous
Sept '99 C$3.49-3.53 C$3.42-3.44
Oct '99 C$3.52-3.56 C$3.46-3.48

Like Alberta pricing, the Sumas, Wash. export market strengthened again to the low-US$2.40s per
mmBtu, which was up about three cents from Monday's levels, sources said.

Station 2, B.C., prices were also higher at C$3.27-3.29 per GJ, traders said.

Meanwhile in the east, Niagara prices rose to about US$3.10-3.11 per mmBtu, traders said, up
another six cents from Monday.
