Regarding Dell and Red Hat Linus, a few thoughts on this.

This may be the first time Linux will be given the chance to penetrate the desktop and end-user market. Linux has already made a name for itself in the server marketplace. But the area where Linux is lacking is on the desktop.

Also, this is Dell. Dell would only make such a move if they knew they could make a market of it.

At the same time, I wouldn't make more of this news than it simply is. No hype is needed, as we still need to see how well accepted Linux is in the mass-market.

...but all in all, definitely a step in the right direction for Red Hat and the Linux Community.

"Maybe Dell knows something we don't,"

This echoes some of the things I said awhile back:

Message 10978225

They are indeed doing this because they know they will sell machines. Period. The fact that they are using Red Hat 6.0 is the best PR that RHAT could possibly ask for. Gee, and I bet that Dell's agreement with Red Hat has a nonzero dollar amount attached to it. Yeah, I know. Not a $5 billion dollar amount. But a very good start.

Price holding up well as volume falls off... _Someone_ is holding on to their shares...
