My grandmother used to occasionally send me a few bucks when I was in college, always with the following instructions: "Don't spend this on beer."

Of course, whiskey, gin, vodka, wine, etc. were perfectly acceptable.

I have read with great interest your experiences of the past few weeks. Our oldest starts Kindergarten the day after tomorrow, so college is just around the corner.

Ouch! You tread, my dear, upon a tender tender subject. Please watch the spikes. Someday I'll have to tell you the latest. The pain is still too intense. Suffice it to say she has now decided that transportation "in style" is of paramount importance. Yikes! Am I that much a fogey ?
