August 31, 1999 SONS OF GWALIA ANNOUNCES RECORD OPERATING PROFIT BEFORE ABNORMAL ITEMS FOR THE SEVENTH SUCCESSIVE YEAR Sons of Gwalia Ltd. ("the Company") today announced a record consolidated operating profit after tax and prior to abnormal items for the 1998/1999 financial year of $54.53 million... MINERALS DIVISION REPORTS RECORD PROFIT The Company said that its Minerals Division performed exceptionally well with a record contribution to profits for the financial year. Tantalum sales of 927,862 lbs. were a record and sales from the lithium and silica sand operations met budgetary targets. ___________ The Ta market is growing as expected. It would be interesting to see the market dynamics of a competing North American supplier (in addition to the current tailings production at Tanco). If they can ship it from Australia to the northeast U.S. with mine grades of 256 ppm (Greenbushes Mine), I'm sure an Ontario supply source would be cost competitive. DRT
