Now, having said that PIII vs. Merced is a fair comparison. Could be a tough choice - for the low-end ;-)>

That's your interpretation of what I said.

I believe Tony V. got the gist of where I was going.

For the record, I expect there should be a compelling reason to upgrade to Merced over Xeon. If that is not the case, hopefully other IA64 options will suit them better in the future. In the mean time, Intel's IA32 offerings have very wide OEM support (11 and counting), on an already established platform. I.e., I hope Intel sells a ton of Xeons that go into Profusion chipsets, now.
