Philip,

Fastpoint Communications is, in my area, offering 786K syncronous DSL service for about 260.00 per month. That means that next year it will be 180.00 per month and two years from now even cheaper. With these speeds and caching in your settop box you should be able to easily do "internet cable" with video and all sorts of stuff on demand. Similar to what AOL/Hughes is proposing but with a much faster uplink. This type of service will be perfect for the customer who wants "one line" and "one service" but all the goodies. He can get his phone, TV, and internet access on one line. This service will not soon be available in Hayhira, Ga. but how much money is there to be made in a little town like that. The major metropolitan areas are being blanketed with these services. The distribution of these services will be very similar to cell phone service in the early 80's. Big cities first where there is big money and then spread to more rural areas. If you look at cable TV it spread in a similar pattern. If you take the long view this model has a good chance of flourishing and even in the shorter view it can do well. Where do I sign up.

Cheers
