Charles, good questions on my Athlon sighting at thechipmerchant.com:
I have yet to make up my mind on if this is a good, bad or indifferent development
IMO, this is a good development. I think AMD is capable of selling and WILL SELL a lot more Athlons thru the white box market than through CPQ and IBM. This will be true until there are about 4 Tier 1's selling Athlons.

May I ask why you are comfortable with the 25% discount [from prices at thechipmerchant.com] for predicting AMD's ASP.

I don't have any inside source at that company, but for the past two quarters 25% discount from their prices (non-boxed versions) predicted AMD's ASP within 5% when the actual speed distribution guesstimated from conference call and brokerage reports was used to estimate the ASP. I've found that pricewatch is not as reliable unless you take the cheapest vendor that charges actual postage, subtract 15% and add in any percentage "handling fee."

I save their price list about every 10 days to do this analysis.
