Bombardier Will Deliver Double-Deck Trains to Israel MONTREAL, QUEBEC--Bombardier Transportation was awarded a contract on the delivery of four 4-double-deck-car trainsets (consisting of one driving coach and three centre coaches) from the Ports and Railways Authority-Israel Railways (Tel Aviv). The contract is valued at approx. (Cdn) $ 48 million (60 million DM). The contract also includes options for another eight 4-car trainsets in a first phase, as well as 18 trainsets in a second phase. This will be the first time that Bombardier Transportation will deliver rail vehicles to Israel. The vehicles will be manufactured by Bombardier Transportation in Gorlitz (Germany). They will be delivered in the second half of the year 2001. As a sub-supplier, the Israeli company Ramta will carry out parts of the interior finishing. The order is part of the development project "Railway 2000" by Israel Railways, enabling them to extend the services to their passengers in the Tel Aviv region. The concept of the vehicles to be delivered incorporates Bombardier Transportation's long-standing experience with double-deck rail cars, as a very large number of such vehicles have been supplied to Deutsche Bahn (the German Railways). The 4-car trainset configuration provides seats for 506 passengers.
