[B] Topps Co. rally continues; shares up 7% on Pokemon craze --
By Jennifer Allen, Bridge News

Los Angeles--Aug 25--The Topps Co. continued its recent strength tied to the craze for Pokemon products. Shares were last up 7% at 11 3/8 after hitting a high of 12 1/16. Topps last traded that high in January 1993, and the company's stock has more than doubled this year.

"Anything that is touching Pokemon is running," said Joseph Besecker,
president of Emerald Research at Emerald Asset Management.
He cited a runup today in Grand Toys International Inc., which has soared since news Aug 4 that it received a license to make and distribute Pokemon products in Canada. Besecker also noted 4Kids Entertainment Inc., which holds licenses for Pokemon merchandise and distribution rights for movies and TV outside of Asia. 4Kids has traded as high as 70 this month, up from a January low at 4 53/64. 4Kids also has licenses for popular World Championship Wrestling.

Pokemon characters first appeared in a Nintendo Gameboy game, and products spun off from this have quickly become a fad in the US and overseas. Topps, known more for its sports cards, signed a license agreement in June to market Pokemon trading cards.

Topps' first US shipment of these cards is expected very soon, if they aren't being shipped already. "My belief is if they are not shipping now they will be momentarily," Besecker said. Topps' second quarter ends Aug 31, so earnings could be boosted if shipments are recorded before then. End
