<How in the world do you figure that? Merced is Intel architecture. IF MSFT ever wants to crack the 64 bit space, and they've ruled out Alpha, what other 64 bit chip are they going to go with? The article questioned MSFT and CPQ relations. I didn't see anything about strained relations between MSFT and INTC.> The quote said "Intel architecture" not "Intel architectures". But the key to understanding the significance of the article may be in the following quote: <Microsoft's move to back away from Alpha throws into question the extent to which Microsoft will push the scalability envelope in the future.> Microsoft stayed with Alpha EV6 because they felt that the P6 bus was scaling very poorly for SMP.
