Scott, Hi!!! Did we catch this?? YOU CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH DELL.... NEVER NEVER NEVER BET AGAINST MICHAEL DELL...NEVER bye bye GTW...bye bye... Dell Computer to Unveil PC With Push-Button Technical Support Austin, Texas, Aug. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp., the No. 1 direct seller of personal computers, plans to unveil a new machine in the fourth quarter that connects users to Dell's computer support desk with the touch of a button. Dell officials declined to say how much the new machine, which is aimed at consumers, will cost. The demonstration model on display at a Dell customer conference in Austin, Texas, was curvy and shaped like a coffee maker, a departure from Dell's traditional PCs. Code-named Webster, the new PC connects to Dell's support services through the Internet when the user presses a button on the machine. Round Rock, Texas-based Dell is trying to improve its PC support services by making them less onerous to use, as well as looking to lower costs by automating the process. Simplifying support services is crucial for PC companies as prices fall. Dell's average selling price fell to $2,200 in the quarter ended July 30 from more than $2,300 in the previous quarter. Dell's machine ``is a next-generation PC,' Dell chairman and chief executive Michael Dell said in a presentation. The button that connects the user to Dell's service desk is a kind of ``relationship button,' Michael Dell said. When pressed, it sends information about the PC and its problem to Dell, using an Internet connection. Computers or company support people can analyze the problem and determine whether it matches problems common to other users, he said. Solutions or software repairs can be sent directly back to the customer's PC. The company also has plans to adapt the push-button support feature for corporations to use with their own internal help desks, Michael Dell said. Dell shares rose 1 1/8 to 47 1/2 in midafternoon trading.
