Petz,

There are 15-20 million K6 users out there. Many will want to upgrade to the Athlon.

Also, as far as NT goes, if Merced means Intel, than Athlon means Intel. I seriously doubt if MS is stupid enough to kill Intel's only competition. They make money on every box shipped, and the competition has spurred sales. This will also hold true at the high end.

These "sotenly not techies" should have read more carefully - Intel DID NOT REDUCE THE PRICE OF THEIR TOP CHIP - a 600 MHz Pentium ///.
