Vitas - it is true that the parallels with prior periods of trouble for the stock market are mounting. if i were to guess what might give us the 'push' from a fundamental point of view, i'd say watch the next batch of ECI and productivity data and above all, the trade deficit. overnight the dollar made a recovery on some short covering, but i still think that there is more weakness for the buck ahead...and the trade deficit will be the main culprit pushing it lower.

Weekly McClellan ratio summation crossed zero to the downside at -21.09 on this week's close and broke the uptrend line from
October '98 through April '99.

Weekly 1% ema of advance declines now at levels not seen since the '94 - '95 correction, having broken the October '98 and April '99 bottoms late July and turning down again this week - heading for the real 4 year cycle bottom territory.

Batten all hatches.
