Yep, there are various cultural influences. Religion is strong, but so are other things. For example, in Saudi Arabia "companionate marriage" has become the norm among American educated Saudis. Many of the wives themselves are college educated, and it is considered normal to stick to one wife and cherish her. Also, many American educated Saudis have developed a taste for scotch, and there are various expedients that have developed to get around restrictions against alcohol, mainly through the few clubs and package stores allowed foreigners. And yet these people still consider themselves Muslim, and resent the fundamentalist clerics that denounce them as infidels for eschewing the veil or allowing women to drive.....
