how about a k8 emulator for VM so that AMD (Always More of a Dud) can go after the mainframe installed base

Then AMD will get to compete head to head with their Alpha buddies as well as Intel's IA64!

I believe you may be getting close to opening the can of worms Charles and I have been avoiding pending more comment.

Now you've done it! ;-)

I haven't given an AMD bid at 64 bits much thought, but my initial gut feel is that the field would be a little crowded, and someone would lose big time.

Maybe CPQ would sell Alpha to AMD, or vice-versa?

Geez, I could go on and on.
