Frank,
Whoops. I didn't mean to say, "posting." I meant to say, "reading." I had a stack of press releases and IR packages about a foot high. Could have been five years ago, but I think it was at least six, maybe even further back? I wish I had saved them now.

As a matter of fact, those were the days when you had to pick up the phone to call the companies you wanted info on and wait for the snail mail to arrive. It was all pre-web days. It seems so ancient now.

"In spite of my critical view on this item, I agree that VDSL via fiber fed digital loop carrier onto a short (1 - 2 km.) copper loop would be much more viable than ADSL served on a copper pair direct from the central office. Won't the many existing brands of fiber-fed digital loop carrier systems need VDSL circuit packs developed? Will VDSL circuit packs be compatible with the huge embedded base of fiber fed digital loop carrier systems? If yes, that is good if available in the next 12 to 18 months. How far away are these from widespread commercial availability vs. laboratory or field trials?"

Frank and Thread,
In going back trying to locate one of my older Dycom Industries posts (in preparation for their Q4 CC tomorrow), I stumbled across and started reading a few posts from October. Not last year, but almost 3 years ago. That was an interesting month/year of posts concerning the telcos impending deployment of DSL technology. Ironically, just about every post could have been written today.

Even today, with intense competition coming from the cablecos, we still have the same discussion about what the telcos are planning. HDSL? HDSL2? DSLite? ADSL? VDSL? RADSL? MV-DSL? etc.

It's very difficult to make investments in the twisted copper pair broadband sector. Even now, three years later, the same questions are asked.
