I know what you mean. I tried to report a scam some guy was running saying he was from the Ontario Police News implying he was somehow authorized by the police to collect donations for a missing kids thingie. But his info came from public sources and he was not registered as a charity. I called the cops and they gave me the number of the anti rackets group of the RCMP. When the guy from the RCMP called me back and I explained what these people were doing, he agreed that it was a scam and had nothing to do with being charitable or associated with Ontario Provincial Police. He also said there was nothing he intended to do about it. That really floored me. Lola:)

... They take 18 months to investigate, they raid, and they still haven't laid charges...(they) look like morons because of our incompetent cops. They SHOULD require some form of education before letting them in. That description could refer to the cops here at SI. It looks like Anthony's been terminated, putting an end to this thread, which was a great resource for those trying to understand the forces that move markets, and not get hoodwinked. It's hard to understand SI's motivations in doing this, but we'll probably never know. And the smart folks will leave, to be with other smart folks and not deal with petty jailors and system outages. Well, you get what you pay for. A@P gone=End of an Era (internet time, era=10 months)
