Wednesday August 25, 11:39 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Efficient Networks Unveils New Digital Subscriber Line Customer Premises Equipment for Consumer and Small Business Markets SpeedStream ADSL Modems Deliver Trouble-Free, High Speed Internet and Corporate Network Access DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 1999-- Efficient Networks, Inc., (Nasdaq:EFNT - news) a leading supplier of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) customer premises equipment (CPE), today introduced two new additions to its SpeedStream family of DSL routers and modems.
The new modems provide fast, affordable DSL networking for consumers, teleworkers and small businesses.
``Enabling plug-and-play DSL networking relies to a large degree on simple, intuitive CPE,' said Peter Bourne, director of product marketing for Efficient Networks. ``Our latest SpeedStream modems provide an ideal CPE solution for non-technical users requiring simple installation and set up, as well as high performance and seamless compatibility.'
The new modems include the SpeedStream 3041, an ADSL internal modem for Windows PC users; and the SpeedStream 4041, a standalone ADSL Universal Serial Bus modem ideally suited for telecommuters and residential users. Both SpeedStream products incorporate Discrete Multitone (DMT) ADSL technology from Texas Instruments that provides data rates up to 8Mbps downstream over a single copper phone line.
The new SpeedStream modems are certified compatible with leading DSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs) and multi-service access platforms currently deployed in DSL networks worldwide. The new products support both full-rate DMT ADSL and the G.lite standard as defined by the Universal ADSL Working Group (UAWG) and adopted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
The internal SpeedStream 3041 easily installs into a standard Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) slot of a personal computer and supports Windows 95, 98 and NT users. Efficient Networks' SpeedStream 3000 ADSL internal modems are ideal for service providers, PC OEMs and systems integrators looking for high-value DSL CPE suited to the needs of single users or Windows-based workgroups that demand high speed, remote access for telecommuting, remote LAN connectivity and Internet access.
Ideal for consumers and small businesses, the SpeedStream 4041 is a USB-attached ADSL modem providing maximum levels of ease-of-use, and seamless integration with Microsoft Windows. The product utilizes Microsoft's Dial-Up Networking facility in Windows, making this new digital, high-speed modems as simple to use as an analog modem. The standard USB interface enables instant connectivity to the PC, eliminating configuration challenges and the need to open the PC chassis for internal equipment installation.
Service Provider Friendly
The new SpeedStream 3041 and 4041 offer complete protocol encapsulation support, including Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over ATM, Ethernet over ATM, and IP over ATM. These software features provide compatibility with the vast majority of remote access servers and service offerings worldwide.
Efficient Networks' new products are supported by the ProfileBuilder(TM) application, which enables service providers to develop pre-configured CPE settings for rapid installation. ProfileBuilder features a set of intuitive, easy-to-use graphical interfaces for the creation of standard service profiles to be bundled with the SpeedStream 3000 and 4000 series modems. By using service profiles, no configuration is required during installation. Setup is as simple as plugging in the modem, inserting a diskette with a configuration file, and clicking a mouse to install a pre-configured software module.
Pricing & Availability
The SpeedStream 3041 and 4041 have suggested retail prices of $269.00 and $299.00 (U.S.) respectively and are available now. The product can be ordered through Efficient Networks' sales channels, including directly from the company and through authorized service providers, distributors and resellers.
