engineer: Thanks for your response. If IWF handles call setup and teardown (even without redialing) repeatedly for each packet, does that mean there is an extra traffic load on the network/switch? Or is it "transparent" to the switch/network/user because the IWF operates as a self-contained module? It sounds like a kind of pseudo packet-switched transmission. Would that be a proper characterization? Also, looking forward, do the carriers hope to move to a true packet-switched environment in the future, and will CDMA handle that?
