LATIN AMERICA

The Government of Bolivia is encouraging infrastructure development by allowing deferral of value added tax and import duties on capital spending for projects that improve the nation's public works, which reduces a project's initial funding requirements. Apex Silver Mines (SIL:AMEX) says it will benefit from the decree by reducing the finance requirements for its San Cristobal silver/zinc project by approximately $40.0 million. The company would receive pre-paid tax credits to match spending on road infrastructure related to the construction of the mine. (Aug 25/99)
