William,

I agree that even in the Business market there is a "Lemming" mentality, but, the business world does not react as whimsically and Pavlovian as does the consumer market. Your example of the WIN98 success was based on the home consumer market where playing with new toys is popular and feasible. It doesnt cost a home user much in $s and time is free for them to put new code on their single PC.

The Business world is generally a lot more conservative and slower moving in the adoption of new versions or revisions of a product - even MSFT's. WHY? Because it cost them hard $ to make a move of moving their software on all devices to another evolution. For example, a large insurance company that is a customer of our's is very much a MSFT "Lemming" classed customer BUT they still have not adopted the WIN98 OS. In fact they will likley jump right over it and move to the NT workstation.

So I would agree with you if you are referring to the consumer market but not the business IT market.

AND! its this market that NetWare participates in. MSFT's new "toy" (NT5) will not be jumped on like the consumer market will jump on Win98. There are always the suckers (aka the Bleeding edge consumers) that can or are willing or dont realize the risks of upgrading to a REVOLUTIONARY OS. The vast majority of the IT industry will wait and watch the results from these guinea pigs, then they will decide if its safe for them to take it on.

So, I still hold on to my statement that in Server market - where NetWare participates, NetWare's marketshare will hold its own and even slowly gain due to special use sales (i.e. ICS, BorderManager, etc.)
