invest - Trade is a better word - I think the word invest should be used for trades where the hold is at least a week or so - LOL - Good uck ole boy - Got my money tied up elsewhare for a bit so trading is minimal

RIM-T RIM getting sued for patent infringement

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wireless Access Group of Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news) announced today that it has filed a federal lawsuit charging that wireless solutions provider, Research In Motion Limited (RIM), is violating one of the company's patents governing power generation from a dual battery source. The complaint was filed July 14, 1999, in U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, in San Francisco.

The complaint alleges that RIM is infringing the company's U.S. Patent 5,631,503, by marketing and selling the RIM Inter@active(TM) Pager 800/900, RIM Inter@ctive Pager 850, RIM Inter@ctive(TM) Pager 950 and the BlackBerry(TM) wireless e-mail device. Originally issued to Wireless Access Inc. on May 20, 1997, Glenayre now holds exclusive rights to the patent.

In its complaint, the Wireless Access Group of Glenayre requests that RIM be found to have willfully infringed the '503 patent. The company is seeking unspecified monetary damages.

``Glenayre will aggressively defend its intellectual property,' said Gary Hermansen, president and general manager of Glenayre's Wireless Access Group. ``We have invested considerable resources to bring the latest technology to market, and as such will protect our interests.'

Pav - some folks over on my bottom trash thread seem to think that is you short a stock that you never have to cover ( re - my question form the other day) that the gains are tax exempt.

I have responded that even if you do not cover and you wait the year and then the Broker releases the funds and you realize the gain that you are indded taxable on that gain.

WE are talking Canada and I did a fair amount of research on what is taxleble as income versus cap gains etc.

do you have any info on this one????
