I just read this on the GG list that Moore partakes of:

"I think also that many European GSM operators are comparing GSM networks upgraded with GPRS (General Packet Rate Service) against 3G/CDMA networks and they are really unwilling to invest billions for a new CDMA layer when they are finally on the black. Probably the situation is quite different in US, because the networks are mainly TDMA. Anyway, this may mean that CDMA as a disruptive technology will never get worldwide acceptance."

How dare he? Okay, the author's e-mail address is @nic.fi. Where the heck is .fi? Finland perhaps.

Anyway, I figure what the heck. I'm going to march in to the Austrian Mobilkom building HQ and ask around about the network here in Austria to see if they have any plans forward looking to a move from GSM to the CDMA. I've paid them monthly service plus calls for 5 years. I figure as a customer (one of the first) they owe me an answer to my question. Then I will send an e-mail to my old neighbor (works for EDS Europe) who moved to Berlin in June. He's in charge of a bunch of projects in Berlin and Germany right now involving the software side of things for new mobile phone networks that are being set up in various cities. I'll see if he knows if they are GSM. My guess is yes because the projects were conceived and started before the March Ericsson/Qualcomm settlement.

Nevertheless, I would be happy to hear any thoughts on this list of Q lovers about Ville's comments.
