Why Net2Phone's a Battleground Stock
By James J. Cramer

Open this lion's den and let me in!!

Ring, Ring
The Plot Thickens as Wall Street Plays Its Games With IDT/Net2Phone
Berko Hangs Up on Net2Phone

I just got a call from Matt Jacobs on Net2Phone (NTOP:Nasdaq). You don't know Matt. Yet. When the DOT was screaming, Matt was Matt.com, but these days Matt is strictly Matt.Redhot.

Matt signed up for Net2Phone today. Couldn't take the hype any more. It was classic. Just like the Herb vs. the world Net2Phone real-life dilemma. The sound was horrible on my end. But it was crystal clear on his end. I wished he had called on the land line. He saves a fortune using Net 2 Phone. I had a horrible echo on my end. His was echo-free.

If I were to invest from my end, I would short it, or at least go long IDT (IDTC:Nasdaq) (true disclosure: You can't borrow Net2Phone, so it can't be shorted -- see my glossary or my rewrites about shorting) and sell Net2Phone.

But from Matt's perspective, I would buy every share. Clean, quality calls with a great graphic on his PC (we are next to each other, so I ran into his office while he was talking to me) with a device that shows you how long you are on and lots of nifty buttons to go elsewhere. If I didn't know any better I would say I have seen the future and it is Net2Phone.

Bottom line: This one is a battleground. I'm staying away. But one phone call sure explains why this stock is caught in a vicious squeeze that may just be beginning.

Berko Hangs Up on Net2Phone
By Jeff Berkowitz

Jeff Berkowitz, Cramer's partner, offers his two cents on Net2phone:

Why Net2Phone's a Battleground Stock

"Hello, hello." That's all I heard on the muffled line.

"Is this Marlon Brando," I ask?

"No, it's Matt," says our analyst, matt.com.

EVERYBODY sounds like Marlon Brando on Net2Phone (NTOP:Nasdaq). Such is my perspective. Stay away, even with the Sprint (FON:NYSE) deal short squeeze killing the poor schnooks bold enough to short this stock. Yeah, this stock probably rocks and rolls for a while. But it won't do that in my portfolio.

$Mogul, I'd like to offer a public THANK YOU for posting your DD findings on here a week or so ago for MDCM! That was a great find, and thanks to you I hold 1000 shares that were bought at 8 1/8. Great job...

Why NTOP will Fall!!!

Amidst all the hype has anyone done any DD on the product. I downloaded it for free today and tried it.

So first off, who cares if Compaq puts it on their computers, anyone can get it now. Maybe Microsoft will put it in that junk folder with Compuserve and AOL.

I must admit the install was professional, it actually worked first time. Kudo's to the programming team. However, the technology just doesn't work well. I've got a clean dual ISDN and it just wasn't acceptable. I can't imagine wanting to converse with lost words and delays like this thing has. At 28.8 it must be aweful!

You can't make free local calls period!

It's for saving on long distance. $.049 per minute. You can get that now many places. I wouldn't want to talk to grandma with my voice breaking up for the same price as a good ol phone.

Best reason, the stock went from $15 to $80 in a couple weeks on hype. When people realize this isn't going to change the world, it will fall.

Just so you know I'm not trying to save my a@@, I already lost it. Shorted two days ago and covered today. Worst trade I've ever made. As you see, I'm still in denial. If I can be this wrong about a company I shouldn't be trading. You review the product and see for yourself. I still hold firm that NTOP must fall. If we get an unfavorable market trend going, more like the end of today's market, I'll get my revenge on NTOP.

Please, no flames, I work in a window office 15 stories up.
