No, I would say it is ok.

I had nice fills at real discount prices (especially in weaker market times when always some sellers are around who accept a discount), providing some cushion on market failures the other day and together with opening gaps it was a nice additional income. On average, I did 3 trades aftermarket.

But I also managed to screw up when I cunfused stock symbols and sold at very far away prices - and there is no the smallest chance to get the deal undone.

In general I would say it is helpful, indeed. You need patience and some guts to offer slight away prices and wait if you get hit. On other events like DELL at the earnings day it was able to get into it cheap and trade it up 2 points.

Much more helpful would be if Datek allows to trade from 8:00 or 8:30 am. Or at least from 9:00 am. This would be a great improvement!"

I bought and sold Dell within 16 minutes the other day.I believe that is the exception rather than the rule, though.

Not really... after-hours trading on Island seems to be mostly a waste of time - except maybe once-or-twice a year, <ggg> Of course, pre-market trading would be a benefit to Datek Online customers... that's why Mrs' Stern and Nicoll indicated pre-market trading for Datek customers in about 3 weeks(months?)... immediately after the markets reopen after Labor Day? Going by the past track record of Datek's "The Check Book is in the Mail!" - when in 2001 will pre-market trading ever happen?

As flaky as Datek Online retail servers are... the only time you can find a server to ENTER or CANCEL an order is in PRE or POST-market hours anyway. <ggg> Forget trying to use Datek in the first or last regular market hours... after all, the daily trading volume is SOOO HUMUNGUS in the last 2 weeks of August!

Even if you are fortunate enough to find a server that works long enough to complete login and order entry, once a limit order is on Island and the NBBO - all market makers just use your NBBO order as a PRICE and SIZE to trade over, around, under, through, and every other trick in the book , NOT to execute the NBBO! - you usually are NOT preferenced,- only as a last-resort, and then just a partial fill anyway.

Oh well, maybe Datek can recruit some more suckers with pre-market trading... just like the amazingly successful post-market rush! <ggg> And not to forget, Datek Online uses the premiere ECN on the Internet... the mother-of-all-ECNs, and the greatest boon to retail investors since Sir Thomas' Crapper!

JUST KIDING... Datek is "The Best" the Net has to offer....... Thank Arty and the SEC.
