Isn't it a bit disturbing that even with distribution agreements, this ceo believe that it will cost 7x to raise the customer base 2x?

I am inclined to give the CEO the benefit of the doubt and believe the quote was taken out of context.

Net2Phone's Tear

Get-Rich Tip: Talk it up. Tuesday, Wall Street showed rousing enthusiasm for innovative Internet telephony company Net2Phone, fresh from its deal with Compaq. Three analyst houses initiated positive coverage on the stock, Alex. Brown and Hambrecht & Quist at a "buy" rating and Bear Stearns at "attractive." Starting this fall, Net2Phone software, which lets users make telephone calls from a PC to a phone or another PC, will be bundled with all new Compaq Presarios, and the two companies will jointly develop a telephony Web site that users can reach by pressing a button on the Presario keyboard. "We want to be bundled in every PC around the world,"

Net2Phone CEO Howard Balter exuded to Reuters. Investors shared his enthusiasm, pushing his company's shares up 12.7 percent to $53 and change Tuesday. That's a nice leap from their $15 IPO price on July 29.

I'd have to agree with you. I was looking for a good telephony play and got more than I bargained for. I would think distribution agreements with Compaq and the like would lower the cost of acquiring additional customers. At this stage of the game dominance is the key I guess. Like AOL carpet bombing ... Amazon constantly expanding ...

This stock is gambling pure and simple ... and a play on a lot of potential. In the meantime it's just fun. I wouldn't put the baby formula money in it.

I'm leaving for Vegas tomorrow. Feeling lucky.

Best of luck.
