I think your suspicion is probably correct. I don't expect the profusion chipset to more than double performance of 8-way vrs 4-way, but the post that kind of kicked this off was the claim by someone here (don't remember who) that Microsoft was really disappointed by how poor the scaling was on the P6 bus. It might be more accurate to say that Intel was upset with how badly NT (4.0) scales.
