UUnet had an opportunity to invest in every one of those startups. They chose JNPR for their investment and for their network.

It's important to remember *people* at UUNET chose Juniper. UUNET still buys plenty of cisco routers. UUNET is an investor in Juniper, big-time smart strategy on Juniper's part.

Either way, Juniper is destined to be successful simply b/c customers want a second source for gigabit & below routers, if only to keep cisco honest.

By the way, cisco *still* can't fill an OC-48 pipe, although others besides Juniper now can.
