Transmeta chip is a high speed access chip that allows data to flow through it and simultaneously get translated, maybe diverted, through the internet(cable/router/WAN/LAN/VPN etc) you can put it anywhere, it will translate ENROUTE or convert data broadband size (Video/streaming media etc) to the platform of the computer or application on the other side of the connection. No more incompatibility problems. A Unix machine can talk to a Windows NT machine or an Apache or Sun Solaris or Windows/Dos/Linux/Netware etc etc without any loss of speed or data, only the chip knows they are incompatible, the machines think they are kissing their cousins. A universal tranlator, thats why Linus Torvalds is in charge of this Paul Allen project (He is one of the founders of Linux operating system freeware competitor to MS dos or windows, its a version, slimmed down, of Unix for mainframe or Internet Server Operating System softare (with Apache).) Red Hat I guess takes this free stuff and puts it on a CD with a book, to help people install it quicker/easier than a long download etc. MS, Bill Gates and Paul Allen especially with the new Michael Dell deals, seem to be hedging their bets on hardware or at least semi-hard-software investments, to diversify I beleive, against DOJ anti-trust and Netscape AOL type lawsuits.
