New Delhi, Aug 25: A UK-based multinational company is in talks with the Rs 300-crore Satnam Overseas for acquiring an equity stake of up to 25 per cent in the company. Negotiations are at an advanced stage for a preferential placement at a price of around $2 (Rs 87) a share, against the current market price of just Rs 29.

At least three Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) have also shown interest in picking up a stake in the company at around $ 1.75-2 a share. These FIIs are looking at a total investment of $ 12-14 million.

The company's joint managing director Gurnam Arora, when contacted confirmed that talks were on with a foreign multinational trading company and some FIIs, but refused to divulge their names.....

Expect them to hem and haw about it a couple of days later, stating that they were "misquoted", "quoted out of context", yadda yadda yadda.

IMO, the person to watch is Arun Nehru, who is now in the BJP. If the Congress does badly in the next elections, he can pull a section of the party towards him, and dilute the influence of the RSS fruitcakes in the BJP. This can cause a split in the BJP, just like the Janata Party collapsed in 1980. And there will be a host of new outfits (like Sharad Pawar) that will be willing to support such a breakway group...

Mark my words -- it will be a game of permutations and combinations ALL the time. If the Hindutva nutcases have to keep control of the BJP, they have to actually hope that Sonia Gandhi does reasonably well in the coming elections, or else they will find that Arun Nehru, Sharad Pawar et al have set their butts on fire!

Oh, no sooner did I say it, than the Hindutva bigots began their daily ritual of back-pedaling!

"Ram Temple promise still holds : Naidu" (General Secretary of the BJP).

Well, let's face it. The BJP guys cannot get more than 180 seats in the Lok Sabha, give or take 20. They will continue to have 14 or 18 or 22 alliance partners. And it will be the same old same old all over again. I wonder whom will the bigots start scapegoating this time -- Karunanidhi, Paswan or Arun Nehru.

My "vote" goes to the last named. Expect him to cause big trouble inside the BJP after the elections. I don't rule out a 1980-style "dual membership" split in the BJP again, for this alliance is beginning to look a lot like the Janata Party of those days...
