I am sure he was being conservative...but I did ask him directly....His response was words to the effect that "you didn't hear from me that I am expecting the NEJM to publish".... Of course it is true that he wants the second study in order to solidify claims for labeling. I merely "speculated" that perhaps another goal was to add bite to the first study and might enhance likelihood of NEJM publication. It was after that conversation that I was not surprised when June and July passed without event.

That Brown would suggest these results might not go to NEJM throws a bit of cold water on my logic. That it might go to JAMA, however, improves the odds that someone will publish.
