Nelson and Dave - SMS

Engineer has indicated that SMS would use the CDMA paging channel.

CDMA service providers have opted not to offer SMS because of concerns about overloading the paging channel, which is used for lots of other stuff.

On the handset side, SMS is implemented as an extension to the
IS-95 (CDMA) protocol stack, as opposed to the IS-707 (Data) protocol stack. I assume that the data services offered by the pdQ utilise IS-707.

You can send a short message on the pdQ, it's the transport mechanism used to transmit the message (i.e. IS-707 vs IS-95SMS)that is different.
