RAMBUS=JET/ROCKET POWER; DDRDRAM,SDRAM-133=PROPELLER POWER It occurred to me that the revolution that is going on with RAMBUS now is exactly like the evolution that occurred when jet engines were introduced to commercial aviation. I am sure that the piston engine manufacturers fought the implementation of JET power. Also, it took time for the airplane manufacturers to redesign their aircraft. Still, the public demand for greater travel speed forced the airplane manufacturers and airlines to accommodate the demand for speed. Would you elect to go coast to coast in a propeller plane even if it were much cheaper? I think not! SDRAM-133 and DDRDRAM are an improvement over the predecessor SDRAMs. However their improvement is like the turbo-prop engine was over the conventional piston propeller engines. But the turboprop engine was no match for the jet engine technology. RAMBUS is like jet engine technology with the future potential of supersonic speeds. In this respect, computers are exactly the same. The public's demand for speed will dictate that the OEM's and other manufacturers change or they will disappear due to the competition. This is inevitable! Dell computer company has recognized this early on and may have the jump ahead of the other OEM's by more quickly adopting RAMBUS for the future. I met Mr. Tate and Mr. Harmon in June of this year. Mr. Tate stated to me that no other competing technology including DDRDRAM, SDRAM-133, EDO had the ability to compete with RAMBUS in the higher ends of its speed potential or latency. I asked him if there were any other technologies being currently developed that could compete with RAMBUS and he he stated that he did not know of any presently available or in the works . He said that Intel asked RAMBUS to develop the product with a great amount of headroom for future expansion. He stated that they have achieved this. As Mr. Tate stated in a recent interview, "... if you believe in speed bet RAMBUS... if you don't believe the public will want more speed and bandwidth then short the stock." In his new book, Business at the Speed of Thought, Bill Gates stated that the next decade will be about speed. I WILL CAST MY BET ON THE SIDE OF SPEED. Sincerely, INVESTARTIST
