This stock is headed higher IMHO, jd, with some possible small pull backs along the way to a new high. For long termers, trying to time MSFT right now is a HUGE mistake (IMHO). These prices will be a distant memory next year.

Johnd, I wanted to do this before we head to the long labor day
weekend. I don't know what events unfold this weekend. Also
I am a bit concerned about the current euphoria in overall
market and potential inflationary jitters agin.

I have to say that i did reduce my stock holdings today. We had one hell of a run in the market and i think some will just try the market on the downside (not me). However, i am just considering it a very short term drop----possibly over by Monday.
I am not touching my long term holdings(including some January options) but i have unloaded trading shares.
Raising cash after some gains is not that bad an idea. I am still invested about 60% and this is what i consider my core long term holdings (MSFT, INTEL, QCOM). At the first drop in prices in these shares or Dell,---i will probably jump back in--and go upto 80%.

Just saw Tom Galvin on CNBC who basically stated that if you invest in tech stock and wait 5 months or so, you should make money. He expects a "W" shaped chart in the market before we get there. Expects January to be huge more so than usual.
I guess the idea is to identify the stocks that will really fly leading into January and all that depends upon how they do in the next 2 or 3 months.

I still feel there are not many "real" sellers; only mutual funds trying to raise cash or hedge funds playing the market short. Mutual funds are not going to see significant redemptions and i think their approach is just to plan for the situation if it arises.

I still consider MSFT, INTEL and a few other techs as safe stocks with limited downside compared to the overall market.

Best of luck in your strategy.
