Robert, i know that japanese institutions hold about 1/3 of all U.S. treasury bonds and about 10% of all stocks. i have no precise data on European exposure, but i know it is big. European institutions are heavily overweight U.S. equities, some 55% of their portfolios on average. they have been net sellers of bonds however this year. the fact that Europeans have bought U.S. equities at a record pace earlier this year is btw a warning sign...they are traditionally late to the party.
