Well I don't think there is any speculation as to why Sippel left so abruptly taking a good part of the acquisition value with him: Sippel could see that Inprise management was beyond repair and left. Listen, they promoted a guy who said that the Internet was a fad back in '96 and he was dead serious. That same joker was responsible for the piss poor documentation and collateral material. Worst of all, he doesn't get it. They actually think they have good documentation and quality support. I have never experienced worse in either category than that which I got from Inprise/Borland BTW, that's why Microsoft Visual Studio is so much more popular than Inprise's'ses'.

Well, Del was just part of the problem, the rest of management has also demonstrated that they work at Inprise because nobody else will take them. It's the same crowd who want to keep INPR independent to keep their jobs: they will be fired in a heartbeat after the inevitable acquisition. Obviously there are a few good people left, hopefully they will stay on when INPR is bought out by whomever.

Prediction: Inprise will be acquired for $9-$12. I'm basing that on what SUNW paid for that piddly little Forte company. I still remember ragging them for having proprietary tools! Then turned around on a dime and started developing with Java!
