>>CSCO clearly believes in optics in the core.. not IP.

Here we go again. The faster the optics, the bigger the bottleneck on the router. Yes someday optics might be able to do the processing but we are far from that. Routing is a key technology for the internet for the forseeable future. Besides, the first to get squeezed will be when current backbone routing speeds become access speeds - Juniper is in the ideal position for this because this means they go DOWNstream. UUnet is ramping sales of backbone routers now so the next step will be when regular non-backbone routing products go obsolete.

Juniper is in a good market. No, routing isn't everything and its just a piece of the overall service provider spending pie. But its a big pie. Slices of slices might mean $20b market caps.

Service providers are in panic spend mode so lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. Cisco is positioning itself for the future by biting the bullet and taking the dilution hit to earnings. This is clearly a signal that Cisco doesn't want to let some dilution stand in the way of them continuing to dominate the internet infrastructure build-out.
